ecomm bruchure

ecomm i super great program that i was a part of for two years.the program branches into graphic design, animation, web, and video. this brochure brings all those things together.  in animation we use programs like maya and create 3D models. in video we create movies using cameras and then editing them on programs. in graphic design we use the adobe suite to create vector graphics and other cool things. in web, we create sites and things for the computers. ecomm is super neat and we do tons of cool things.

Logo Workflow

how i made my logo

i researched logo tips to help me better my logo. 

then i created a mood board- inspiration for my logo 

from my mood board, i created sketches. 

i put the sketches into illustrator.  

i really liked the square logo, so i was going to go with that, but i realized it wouldn't work on every background. so i went with this

this logo tells my personal story because it is simple, and the heart represents all the things i love and am passionate about. it also has my first initial ;D

How Does Logo Design Tell a Story?

this is my final logo :)

my process was pretty simple. i started by sketching things i like and things i thought would make a good logo. i had a few sketches that looked like my final logo, but there were changes once i started using Illustrator. i put all my sketches in the computer and also made a few more logos that i came up with while i worked. i ultimately chose this logo because it will work on any background. this logo tells my story by being simple, and the heart shape represents all the things that i love and am passionate about. 

video copilot tutorial

i did the glow balls tutorial. i created some circles and some text on a 3d layer and added a cool glow effect. here's the final product.

the balls and the text were created in a separate composition and added to the main comp later. i added a mask sort of thing with a rectangle that the balls and text could hide behind.

here's the rectangle mask. i added keyframes to make the circles and text move through the mask.

in the actual composition, i added the glow effect with an actual glow effect that's in After Effects. at this time, the glow was only on the ground. i also duplicated the balls layer and flipped it to create a reflection.

i added a glow to the circles layer and enhanced it with the curves tool. i added more than one glow to make it really shine.

afterwards, i added a wiggle to the camera so it wouldn't just sit still. it made the animation a little more interesting.

eMagine

eMagine is a media festival held at Olathe Northwest! it gives people the opportunity to show off their work. students from around Kansas and Missouri submit their projects to be judged. the categories were in video, web, graphics, and animation. after awards were given, there was a reception with lots of food, and it gave people to opportunity to talk about what they did and what they enjoyed.

kerning

kerning is the process of adjusting the spacing between characters in a proportional font, usually to achieve a visually pleasing result. kerning adjusts the space between individual letters. it is pretty important to have a visual appealing font, especially if you want that font to attract people to your logo or brand. seeing type being un-proportional can be pretty disturbing to some people. make sure your text is pretty and kerned!!!

KAWS & Dylan Mortimer

KAWS- KAWS, or Brian Donnelly, Graduated from the School ofVisual Arts in New York with a bachelors in illustration. in the late 90s, KAWS designed and produced vinyl toys. he also worked for disney.

Dylan Mortimer- Dylan Mortimer Graduated at the Kansas City Art Instituted with a Bachelor of fine arts and he graduated at the School of Visual Arts in New York with a masters in fine arts. he has public art installations in nine states. 

"My work explores how ideas are sold.  I navigate concepts of marketing, soliciting and evangelism… ideas about selling an idea.  The views we hold closest to our hearts- politically, socially, spiritually- the things we feel are too valuable to be kept to ourselves, motivate us to go about the work of convincing others of our view/perspective/belief.  Visually, my work employs methods of communication through signage, advertising, slogans, etc.  My struggle deals with my upbringing in evangelical Christianity, and the navigation of my own beliefs in the context of growing up with a respiratory disease.  My faith was helpful in my struggle in many ways.  The rest of my life has been navigating how that relates to anyone outside of me.  We all have convictions that have helped us privately.  My interest is in how those private convictions function outside the self.  I’m interested in the messy, yet necessary process of how personal beliefs/opinions/convictions collide in the public." -Dylan Mortimer

each poster has a simple element and something in the background. the background image isn't too dominant, and the tittle is easily seen. these posters are both very simple, and this simplicity makes up a good movie poster. 

the story behind the google logo

the Google logo was developed by Ruth Kedar. he says "We ended up with the primary colors, but instead of having the pattern go in order, we put a secondary color on the L, which brought back the idea that Google doesn't follow the rules." throughout the years, the google logo has changed in color variation, and the look of the type. the original Google logo's font is Baskerville Bold. this now famous logo could probably be any font, and people would always recognize it. google rocks.

how do the things i value reveal my personal story?

everyone values different things, and the things they value reveal their story. 

the things i value reveal my story by telling what i like and how things are important to me.

since everyones value are different, everyones personal stories are different. 

i value nature because it is everywhere, and it makes up the world. i also really value cute guys. they make me smile, and make my day happy. these things that i value reveal who i am as a person.

plausible impossible : Donalds cousin Gus

the above image is believable because Gus is stupid enough to not be able to move the paper over, so he instead moves the mailbox over. normally, it would be pretty impossible to do so.

in this image he made a really big sandwich and shoved it into his throat. after doing so, it looks like an accordion in his neck. this is plausible because of the way he ate it and the sound it makes when his neck moves.

no one would be able to knit a sock out of noodles.. it is plausible though because it's pretty funny.

in reality, no one could suck so hard that a long trail of peas would slide into your mouth. after showing that scene, people then believe that Donald and Gus could fight over the last pea by sucking so hard.

this last image shows that Gus ran so hard into Donald's door that he was able to smash into it, leaving the shape of his body behind. this happens so often in cartoons, and seems pretty plausible. in reality, if someone tried to do this, they would probably end up with a headache.
